Terrence "Terry" R. Eggert

Our beloved, amazing Terrence (Terry) Eggert passed away suddenly and peacefully May 2,
2023 at home after a brief battle with cancer at age 65.
Terry is preceded in death by his parents Edward and Geraldine (Toomey) Eggert. He is
survived by his wife Maura (Spellman) Eggert, his sister Karen (Eggert) Kelly and family, and
brother Mike Eggert and family, as well as a loving extended family across the country and a
network of dear friends. We all miss his warm smile and infectious laugh, his kindness and
generosity that he shared with everyone he met.
Terry was born in Chicago Illinois on September 16, 1957. He attended St. Viator grade school
on the northwest side of Chicago, and graduated from Carl Schurz High School in 1975. He
loved playing ice hockey, bowling and camping with his friends. He played drums with great
enthusiasm.
He and his friends enjoyed going to concerts, and Terry was a huge fan of the Ramones – seeing
them seventeen times in concert and savoring every moment, especially when he had a chance
to meet each of them in concerts over the years. His most memorable moment came when
Johnny Ramone reached down into the crowd and personally handed him his guitar pick.
Terry had a long career first working at a book bindery and then applying his exceptional design
and creative skills working in maintenance and purchasing in the plastics injection molding
industry. Terry had the proud accomplishment of designing one of the first machines for the
finishing of bottle caps for plastic milk gallons. He later had a successful career as an
independent handyman, where he was in constant demand and on the list of preferred vendors
for DuPage senior citizens. He continued using his creative and problem-solving skills even
after retirement to help friends and family.
Terry also owned a lake cottage in Burlington Wisconsin for over 35 years, where he hosted
many parties, worked with friends to build incredible Venetian Night boat designs (winning
every year they participated), spent time with his family and welcomed a generation of friends
and their children for days in the sun and surf, giving us all wonderful memories. Terry was an
expert water-skier and enjoyed driving his power boat around the lake.
He lived in Chicago and Franklin Park, and he and Maura settled in Glen Ellyn when they
married in 1996. They moved to San Jose, California in 2011 and then retired in Franklin
Wisconsin in 2016.
Although a city boy by birth, Terry loved the country and open spaces and the variety of
wonderful lakes. He took delight in kayaking with Maura on the Great Lakes, particularly Lake
Michigan, as well as in local inland lakes, reservoirs, Lake Tahoe, and along the Pacific coast in
northern California and Vancouver Island. Terry often incorporated visits to lighthouses, train

museums, and mines into vacations, so he was thrilled to spend time volunteering at Almaden
Quicksilver Park in California (which used to have a mercury mine). In addition to kayaking,
Terry’s other interests included hanging out with family and friends, hiking, gardening, biking,
traveling, and building model ships. He was a true renaissance man in our eyes.
There will be no service held, but we will be planning a Celebration of Life open house this
summer in Wisconsin.
