Michael Grieger Obituary

Michael “Mike” Scott Grieger, 53, of Oak Creek, WI, died October 26, 2019 at Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee of natural causes.

He was born November 1, 1965 in Valparaiso, IN, son of Gene and Jody Stephens Grieger. He graduated from Valparaiso High School in 1983. Mike then graduated from Ball State University in Muncie, IN with a degree in accounting in 1987.

Mike married Mary Helen Davis Show on December 12, 1987 in Muncie at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church. He worked as an accountant at IMMI in Westfield, IN for 13 years before moving his family to Pella, IA to work at the Pella Corporation as an IT Business Analyst for seven years. After his children went to college, Mike and Mary moved to Ankeny, IA and later to Oak Creek to work for The Master Lock Company and the Actuant Corporation as a Senior Business Analyst.

In his youth, Mike enjoyed playing volleyball as well as golf through college. He rarely missed his childrens’ sporting events; he loved to travel with his wife to their daughter’s college volleyball games around the Midwest. Mike also was an ardent Chicago Cubs and Indianapolis Colts fan, a passion he shared with his sons, and was so happy to see the Cubs win the World Series in 2016.

Since his retirement, Mike had been traveling with his wife. He was an avid Carnival Cruiser, closing in on the platinum cruiser level. In September, Mike visited Alabama, which checked off his 50th state. He was also a theatre junkie; Mike spent a lot of time at the Chicago Shakespeare Theatre and other playhouses in the area. Mike was a quiet man--he most liked to spend time at home with his family watching movies and playing games.

Mike is survived by: his wife, Mary; a daughter, Chelsea (Curt) Toppin of Cedar Falls, IA; two sons: Justin Grieger and Aaron Grieger, both of Oak Creek; his mother, Jody Grieger of Valparaiso, IN; two sisters: Lori (Dan) Lodics and Wendy Guth, both of Valparaiso; and one grandson, Miles Scott Toppin.

He was preceded in death by his father, Gene A. Grieger in 2010.

Private family services will be held at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the American Heart Association or the American Kidney Fund.
