Was born to eternal life at the age of 73 on April 23rd, 2022.
John was born on March 26th, 1949, to James and Grace Navis.
He attended Racine Christian School through 8th grade. For his high school years he attended Park High School in Racine.
Upon graduation, he joined the US Army on 8/30/1967. As a member of the 173rd Airborne he spent a year on search and destroy in the jungles of Vietnam. (1968 – 1969) Returning from Vietnam, he served as an NCO in Fort Lewis, Washington, where he fulfilled his tour of duty and received an Honorable Discharge.
That fall, he registered as a student at Dordt College, Sioux Center, Iowa. He graduated with a BA in Sociology/Psychology. While there, he met the love of his life, Ruth Goudswaard, while they were performing in a theater production. They were married in Lynden, Washington on 1/07/1972, and celebrated 50 years together on 1/07/2022.
John was preceded in death by his mom and dad. He is survived by his wife Ruth, two sons: Brian (Alycia) and Scott (Christine), 6 grandchildren: Sean, Henry, Christian, and Angelina, as well as 2 loved step grands: Olivia and Niya. John is also survived by his siblings: twin brother, James (Constance), Keith (Kim), Ron, and Karen (Ed) Diemer.
John enjoyed being in the great outdoors, up north, his backyard, on the lake, or in the woods. He loved planting and watching things grow. Through the years, John spent many hours on his motorcycle and on his boat. He also was an amazing cook, as many can attest to, since he always made large amounts, so he could share with others. In addition, John served as a deacon and youth leader at Covenant Presbyterian Church.
He will be missed by many for his joy of life, compassion, friendship, and willingness to spend time with others when they needed a hand.
In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to St. Jude's Hospital or to ASPCA organizations in John's name.
