Gilbert Muszynski Obituary

Gilbert “Gil” Muszynski was born to eternal life at the age of 82 on Sept. 28th, 2021. Beloved husband to Sheila (Hackl) for 60 years. Loving dad to Chris (Kris), Jim (Kim), Mary and Nicole. Loving grandpa to Austin, Hannah, Calvin, Max, Gabriel, Leo and great granddaughter Ember. Beloved brother to Shirley Kurowski.  He is preceded in death by his parents Peter Norbert Muszynski and Elizabeth Gumowski, sister Virginia Shore, sister Lorraine Augustine, brother Ralph Muszynski, and sister Patsy Sobocinski, as well as many other family and friends.

Gil grew up in Cudahy, Wisconsin on a farm.  He was the baby of the family - youngest of six and spoiled by his sisters and brother.  He attended school through the 10th grade, then worked in the automotive field, while still working on the family farm. He was a member of the Air Force Reserve as an aircraft mechanic through 1960.  He was also in the Air National Guard and was honorably discharged in 1962.  Eventually he became a  union millwright for over 40 years.

Gil was the quintessential blue collar worker.  He worked hard at many trades and was a member of the carpenter’s union up to his passing.  He was universally handy and many of his family and friends benefitted from his skills, as Gil was generous to a fault.  He enjoyed helping others in any capacity he could.

Gil met Sheila in 1960 when he and a few buddies made a bet about who could get her to agree to a date.  His two buddies struck out, and she also initially gave a no to Gil.  He introduced himself and she laughed at his name and he said “don’t laugh, that’s going to be your name some day.”  She eventually said yes to a date and they were married on July 15, 1961.

Gil had an infectious laugh and loved to tell jokes and stories.  Some were off color, but people enjoyed them nonetheless.  Gil loved to dance and was an amazing dancer.  Gil was “Country When Country Wasn’t Cool.”  He liked to “Roll Out The Barrel.”  And sometimes he’d go a little “Crazy.” He loved to fish with his buddies and his Uncle John.  In fact, Sheila and Gil went fishing for their honeymoon.

Gil enjoyed his family and in later years, really enjoyed being a grandpa and then a great grandpa, and spending time with his grandchildren.  Some of his grandchildren called him Papa.

Gil and Sheila were married at Sacred Heart, which is now St. Martin of Tours, and they had their reception at the Pulaski Inn.  To make it full circle, Gil’s wife Sheila would love to have everyone celebrate Gil’s life at the Pulaski Inn, a place where many family events occurred.  Please join us for a luncheon there after the service.
