Dorothy (Cheung) Lagerlund

Dorothy (Cheung) Lagerlund passed away at the age of 76 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on September 13, 2020. Beloved wife of Steve, loving mother to Ann and son-in-law, James, and grandmother to Madeleine.  Beloved sister of her brothers, Wing Ling, Kam Ling, Tak Ling and sister, Yuet Ling. Further survived by many other loving relatives and friends. Preceded in death by her parents Yeung Hing Cheung and Kei Ying Yau, and her brothers Pak Ling and Wai Hung Cheung. 

Dorothy was born in Hong Kong in 1944.  In 1970 she adventurously moved alone to Montgomery, Alabama.  She met her future husband Steve there and married in 1973. During their 50 year long loving relationship, they traveled extensively and moved multiple times.  She always had the fondest memories of Seattle, Japan and especially Singapore, where she lived for 8 years. She settled down in Milwaukee, Wisconsin for the last 30 years of her life. During that time, she fought a courageous battle with metastatic lung cancer, diagnosed in 2005, and miraculously went into remission after years of treatment. She never complained through the entire process and remained strong. Despite her progressive weakness from her treatment, she still did many of her favorite things. She loved visiting her family in Hong Kong, reuniting with friends she had met through her travels, and, always, planning and savoring delicious meals. She spent the last couple of years enjoying her granddaughter, Madeleine, and would always reserve a smile just for her. She passed peacefully in her sleep on September 13th surrounded by her family. 

No service will be held at this time. If circumstances allow, a celebration of Dorothy's life will be held at a later date.
