Bernard Daniel Knuth passed away peacefully in his sleep, at his home, on July 24, 2020, with family and his beloved dog Rascal by his side.
Bernard was born on June 8, 1935 in Ludington Township, Eau Claire County, WI to Ida and Arthur Knuth.
Bernard attended Pine Grove School, a one room school. He was a 1953 graduate of Fall Creek High School.
Bernard served in the US Air Force from 1954 to 1959 attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. While at a USO show in Anchorage Alaska, Bernard got a kiss from actress / singer Peggy Lee. After the Air Force, Bernard continued his education at UW Eau Claire. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology.
Bernard’s career was in medical technology and microbiology but his passion was music. Bernard played the saxophone, accordion and piano. Bernard was also an excellent cook and enjoyed good food.
Bernard was preceded in death by his parents Ida and Arthur Knuth; brothers Albert and Herman (who died in infancy); sisters Louise Albrecht, Olga Newman, Elsie Kuhnert, Dorothea Wolfgang and Helen Steinke.
Bernard is survived by nieces Lucille Miller, Arvella Howieson, Darlene (Don) Schlegelmilch of Eau Claire, Kathleen (Jerry) Knudtson of West Salem, Shari Albrecht and Vikki Jo Huth of Fall Creek, Cheryl (Michael) Roosevelt of Wausau; nephews Ron (Riel) Knuth of Spring Branch,Texas, Cliff Albrecht of Fall Creek, Rick (Sandy) Steinke of Eleva, Matthew Wolfgang of Chippewa Falls; numerous cousins, grand nieces, and grand nephews.
Bernard will be greatly missed by friends worldwide, from Milwaukee to Vienna to Pakistan. He was fortunate to have some wonderful neighbors and friends that allowed him to live on his own, as he wished. His impact was far-reaching, and his influence will live on through those whose lives he touched.
Bernard did not want a funeral; instead, a private interment will take place later this summer at Forest Hill Cemetery in Oak Creek, WI.
